Glenn Miller orchestra to return. STAFF REPORT news@dewittobserver.com. Mar 28, 2023. A musical act scheduled at the Central DeWitt Performing Arts Center is bound to get people to their feet. The Glenn Miller Orchestra swings into DeWitt on April 15, 2023, at 7 p.m. A member of its Delta Tau Delta, he graduated in 1925. Before teaming with the legendary arranger, trombonist and band leader Glenn Miller, MacGregor played with jazz musician, songwriter and recording artist Irving Aaronson. In 1936 he became a sideman in the first Glenn Miller orchestra. Unsuccessful, that outfit disbanded in 1937. Later versions "At Last" has been recorded by many other artists since its original 1940's renditions. Former Glenn Miller Orchestra trumpeter Ray Anthony had the highest charting recording of the song in the U.S. on the pop charts in 1952, peaking at number two on the Billboard pop singles chart and number 20 on the Cashbox chart. The 18 member orchestra, their lead singers and vocal group will perform their catalog of big band classics just the way they would have over 80 years ago when Glenn Miller stood in front of his band. It is a show that continues to transport audiences back in time and is as nostalgic as it is exciting. The Glenn Miller Orchestra is one of the most sought-after big bands in the world. The orchestra plays many of the original arrangements of legendary Glenn Miller such as “Rhapsody in Blue,” “In the Mood,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “String of Pearls,” and “Tuxedo Junction,” as well as modern big-band style selections. The members were not meshing with one another the way Miller had hoped. He wanted to achieve a full ensemble sound, rather than spotlighting a soloist. Miller decided to reorganize, using only a few of the band's original members. Later that year the Glenn Miller Orchestra added singer, Marion Hutton, to its roster. Miller took “In the Mood” with him into the service and regularly performed and broadcast it with his Army Air Forces Orchestra in the United States and overseas. “In the Mood” became Miller’s biggest instrumental hit and most-requested number. Per his original RCA contract, Miller received $175.00 for recording “In the Mood.” H1 to H6: Music From The Original Sound Track Of "Orchestra Wives" 1942 I1: Rhapsody In Blue - Recorded: July 16, 1942 I2: Sweeter Than The Sweetest - Recorded: May 20, 1941 I3: Pavanne - Recorded: April 18, 1939 I4: Moon Love - Recorded: May 25, 1939 I5: Adios - Recorded: June 25, 1941 I6: Glen Island Special - Recorded: July 26, 1939 Mills is currently a pianist with the world-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. , the 19-member band continues many of the original arrangements as well as modern selections in the big-band style.
